At Top Mix we not only supply ready-mixed concrete, but also Gypsol levelling compound in Oxford and the surrounding areas.
When you are engaged in any sort of construction project there are many things to consider, and one of those is the flooring. You want the floor to be flat and level, but if you attach the final floor surface direct to the concrete subfloor it won’t be. What is needed is a screed, which is a thin layer of material that is set on top of the subfloor in order to produce as flat a surface as you can.
There are two basic types of screed, one of which is the traditional mix of sand and cement. This is usually composed of 3 – 5 parts of sand to one of cement. It can be mixed on site in a mixer and then barrowed on to the concrete substrate of the room. As you can imagine, this requires a lot of labour. However, today, it is often delivered ready mixed to the site which at least provides a certain consistency to the mix.
Either way, the screed then has to be levelled out as much as possible on the substrate, and this is done by a worker on hands and knees using a trowel.
Calcium Sulphate
The other type of screed / levelling compound is produced using calcium sulphate in place of the cement. Calcium sulphate changes into gypsum when mixed with water. This type of screed has many benefits when compared with sand and cement and is known variously as gypsum screed, self-levelling screed, flowing screed, liquid screed, and more. We produce high quality Gypsol screeds.
We deliver these to site ready mixed. Because the screed is in liquid form, all that we then need to do is to connect a long hose and a pump to the delivery truck and simply pump the Gypsol screed into position on the substrate.
Because the screed is in liquid form, it is self levelling, in much the same way that a cup of tea levels itself when poured. All that needs to be done then is to run over it with a dappling bar so that it will remove any air bubbles, and then leave it to dry. As you might imagine, that is a lot quicker than leveling a sand and cement screed by hand.
Not only that, but our Gypso levelling compound in Oxford dries very quickly. It will be ready to walk on in 24 – 48 hours, so there are no interruptions to other trades who also need to work on the site.
